About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team at BT Security. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our cutting-edge infrastructure and deployment pipelines.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Technical Leadership: Lead a matrix team of DevOps engineers, providing guidance and support in technical decision-making and problem-solving.
  2. Monitoring and Logging: Configure and maintain monitoring solutions such as Elastic Search and Apache Kafka to ensure the health and performance of our systems and network.
  3. Database Management: Work with both relational (MySQL) and NoSQL databases to design, deploy, and optimize data storage solutions.
  4. Network Engineering: Apply your understanding of network principles to troubleshoot network faults within our systems and look at how you can optimize performance and enhance security across our infrastructure.
  5. People Leadership: Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate with software development teams to integrate DevOps best practices into the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's Degree: In Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or relevant experience.
  2. Proven Experience: In a DevOps or infrastructure engineering role, with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  3. DevOps Expertise: Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, with a strong background in a modern programming language such as Python.
  4. Monitoring and Logging: Experience with monitoring and logging solutions such as Elastic Search, Apache Kafka, and Prometheus.
  5. Configuration Management: Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible.
  6. Deployment: Knowledge of the deployment of software (or code) to a variety of types of infrastructure (including Virtual Machines, Routers, Switches, and Compute hardware).
  7. Cyber Security: An understanding and awareness of cyber security, the impact of not managing it properly, and how to continually audit and prove compliance.
  8. Network Fundamentals: A base understanding of network fundamentals (to include common network protocols like BGP, IS-IS, etc.).
  9. Database Experience: Experience working with both relational (MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Modern Programming Language: At least 1 modern programming language.
  2. CI/CD: Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.
  3. People Leadership: Experience in people leadership.
  4. Network Engineering: Experience in network engineering.
  5. Kubernetes: Experience with Kubernetes.
  6. Open-source Tooling: Experience with open-source tooling.
  7. Linux: Experience with Linux.
  8. Elastic Search: Experience with Elastic Search.
  9. Apache Kafka: Experience with Apache Kafka.
  10. Itential: Experience with Itential.
  11. Juniper Paragon Suite: Experience with Juniper Paragon Suite.
  12. MySQL/NoSQL Databases: Experience with MySQL and NoSQL databases.
