We are seeking a skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Microbiology Department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. This full-time position involves working in the serology and molecular sections, processing samples, reporting results, and participating in out-of-hours rotas to support patient care.

The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of pathology and disease processes, with experience of working within a microbiology laboratory. They will be expected to gain competence in techniques to enable participation in the delivery of a 24-hour Pathology service.

This role requires a good understanding of automation, technologies like Siemens Centaur, Abbott Alinity-M, and Qiagen NeuMoDx, and new semi-automated molecular technology. The department uses these technologies to deliver a quality-driven, cost-effective, patient-focused service.

This is an exciting opportunity for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to work in a busy laboratory delivering services to one of the UK's largest teaching hospitals. The post holder will be responsible for developing a collaborative microbiology service with other trusts in West Yorkshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out technical procedures and tasks consistent with your knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Performing serological analysis and result interpretation with escalation as required
  • Maintaining records and documentation
  • Setting up and analyzing molecular test results with escalation as required
  • Basic disease recognition and specialist reagent setup
  • Dealing with unauthorized telephone results inquiries

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a serology laboratory and molecular laboratory, and proven ability to work unsupervised. Desirable qualifications include teaching and training skills.
