Job Title: Claims Lawyer

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Complex Injury Claims Team as a Claims Lawyer, handling a caseload of large loss RTA claims with values between £25,000 and £100,000. The ideal candidate will have experience in indemnity, liability, and complex medical issues, with excellent attention to detail.

The role involves working with senior claims handlers in long-standing insurance clients, and may also require assisting the Lead Lawyer in activities that enhance and develop Keoghs' profile.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Handling a caseload of large loss RTA claims with values between £25,000 and £100,000.
  2. Communicating with insurer clients, dealing with queries, and providing progress updates.
  3. Forensic analysis of quantum evidence, preparing chronologies, and identifying anomalies.
  4. Using knowledge of complex injury symptomology to identify relevant issues within medical records.
  5. Critical analysis of liability evidence and identifying gaps.
  6. Drafting concise technical advice on claim handling, including reserves, indemnity, liability, and quantum issues.
  7. Proactively identifying next steps required on matters and discussing with the Lead Lawyer as relevant.
  8. Interviewing witnesses and drafting statements.
  9. Liaising with parties involved in claims, including the insured, insurer, and witnesses.
  10. Drafting pleadings and applications.
  11. Instructing counsel and attending conferences, JSMs, mediations, and court proceedings.
  12. Dealing with costs budgets in conjunction with costs lawyers.
  13. Delivery of agreed performance targets and quality standards.
  14. Delegating tasks to an Assistant/Complex Injury Paralegal and engaging in their development.
  15. Maintaining case management systems with up-to-date management information for clients.

Requirements:

  1. Qualified solicitor, CILEX, or proven relevant legal experience.
  2. Experience in indemnity and RTA liability, and complex medical issues.
  3. Experience working in a similar role assisting on large loss and/or catastrophic injury claims.
  4. Ideal candidate will have defendant experience, but claimant background will be considered.
  5. Desire to develop more junior members of the team.
