Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, the resort spans over 3 hectares of landscaped cliff tops and gardens, offering unique access to two coves surrounded by crystal-clear waters. Ideally located in Calvià, one of the most exclusive municipalities on the island, the property is close to key attractions such as Portals port, historical landmarks in Palma de Mallorca, and the international airport.

The resort will feature 131 guestrooms, including 44 suites and nine bungalows with stunning sea views, outdoor terraces or balconies, some with private panoramic plunge pools. Our comprehensive Spa will offer the Group's signature wellness therapies and beauty treatments, focusing on local nature-inspired programs. Guests will also have access to a wide range of water sports and a Children's Club.

As Engineering Director, you will lead and control all engineering-related activities, providing a balanced service to meet the needs of the physical property, our customers, and colleagues. You will actively participate in the general day-to-day operation of the department, leading, mentoring, training, and educating the engineering team. Your responsibility includes financial management of the property's operation and maintenance expenses and utilities consumption.

During the pre-opening phase, you will drive the Technical Services division's critical path, including recruitment of the Engineering team, process structuring, and MO standards compliance. You will report directly to the General Manager.

Your key duties include:

  • Maintaining the proper and safe condition of all buildings, plant rooms, equipment, and front and back-of-house areas.
  • Establishing and implementing 'Safe and Sound' procedures, such as Fire, Life, Health, Safety, and Security, Emergency, and Standard Operating Procedures, in compliance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards.
  • E nsuring all work carried out for the hotel complies with relevant statutory requirements, regulations, and codes.
  • Performing 'Emergency Response Team' duties as required.
  • Directly overseeing and controlling the activities of the Engineering Management Team under your supervision.
  • Selecting and overseeing engineering outsourced companies and services.
  • Participating in the formulation of strategic business plans for the hotel.
  • Developing and implementing strategic development for the hotel's involvement in the local community.
  • Formulating and implementing preventative maintenance programs in accordance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.
  • Establishing and managing the annual CapEX plan and budget for all aspects of engineering.
  • Oversighting the strategic direction of general projects related to the enhancement of the hotel. Project management covers planning, administration, implementation, and evaluation of financial results of projects.
  • Supporting the Financial Controller in the hotel's overall financial performance, annual hotel budget process, energy and cost consumption, and selection and documentation of engineering contractors.
  • Supporting the Director of Human Resources in their strategy for employee recruitment, career development programs, labor cost management, community programs, and employee evaluation and recognition.
  • Supporting the IT&T Director in telecommunications upgrades and enhancements, annual maintenance of contingency systems supporting IT&T equipment and systems, and annual testing and conformance of emergency power systems based on Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.
  • Supporting the Operations team on training and demonstration of various systems, such as the key system for guest rooms, audio-visual equipment, lighting, and temperature control systems.
  • Participating in Repairs and Maintenance, Project, and Risk Management Committee meetings as required.
  • Conducting regular inspections of all front and back-of-house areas to ensure quality and standards are maintained at the highest level.
  • Ensuring all drawings, manuals, and documentation are updated as changes are made.
  • Ensuring certifications, test reports, inspections, and maintenance reports are properly stored and updated.
  • Being fully conversant with all technical details of all plant and services relating to the hotel.
  • Assisting engineering personnel with technical advice and ensuring standards are maintained.
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts, and costings.
  • Actively assisting with energy conservation and control.
  • Maintaining contact with local authorities and Government Departments to ensure compliance with all requirements and assistance or advice is readily available when needed.
  • Promoting and coordinating all requirements as per MOHG's Fire, Life, Health, Safety, and Security guidelines.

We offer a competitive salary of €120,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A minimum of five years in engineering management, preferably within luxury hospitality.
  • Pre-opening and resort experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of major building systems and energy management.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in office automation applications, such as Words, Excel, Visio, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Spanish.
