About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join our Pathology specimen reception team at Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive support to the pathology service, including performing a wide range of tasks across all sections of the department, namely Blood Sciences, Immunology, and Virology.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with the receipt, prioritization, and pre-analytical processing of potentially infectious samples.
  • Use basic laboratory devices, such as a centrifuge, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), under supervision as required.
  • Interact with healthcare professionals, drivers, engineers, and members of the general public at the reception hatch.
  • Have good computer skills for request entry and good verbal communication skills for answering frequent telephone queries and personal interactions.
  • Maintain focus on repetitive tasks and demonstrate good written communication skills for documentation.
  • Have good listening skills and be able to receive instruction and communicate responses and suggestions effectively.
  • Work flexibly, including late shifts and weekend participation as necessary.
