Job Title: Lead Physical Risk Modeller

At SmartResilience, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Physical Risk Modeller to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in developing and applying climate risk models that assess physical risks posed by climate change, including extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and other natural hazards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and apply physical risk models to assess and quantify the impacts of climate hazards on infrastructure, communities, and businesses.
  • Provide expert input on the physical risks of climate change, with a focus on extreme weather, hydrological risks, heat stress, and coastal and inland flooding.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to integrate risk models into broader climate risk management frameworks and solutions for clients.
  • Interpret climate model outputs and provide clear, actionable insights to clients, assisting them in making informed decisions on climate adaptation measures.
  • Produce comprehensive risk assessment reports, supported by robust data analysis and clear communication of complex scientific information.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in climate science, climate modelling, and physical risk assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Contribute expert knowledge in climate science and physical risk modelling to support the development of business proposals and client presentations.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members on climate risk modelling techniques and best practices.
Requirements:
  • PhD or MSc in Climate Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
  • Strong expertise in physical climate risk modelling and assessment.
  • Proficiency with climate data and modelling tools (e.g., GCMs, RCMs, GIS).
  • Knowledge of climate adaptation strategies, infrastructure risk, and resilience.
  • Experience working with data sets related to extreme weather events, coastal flooding, and/or hydrological risks.
  • Proven track record of delivering clear and impactful risk assessments or climate resilience strategies for clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific data into practical, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with insurance, infrastructure, or financial services sectors is advantageous.
