Job Description

The Registered Manager will be accountable for delivering high-quality care to children and young people residing in the home. This involves overseeing the delivery of all care services, strategic planning for home developments, and day-to-day management responsibilities. They will report to the Responsible Individual and Directors of the company.

The Registered Manager must demonstrate the ability to build on existing principles and practice standards, contributing to the continuous improvement of childcare standards. They will be responsible for delivering care focused on achieving the best outcomes for each child and young person in the home.

The Registered Manager will lead the team in childcare, organizing and supporting staff to provide the best possible care. This includes being personally available, supervising and mentoring staff, organizing work patterns, facilitating care-focused training, and accessing services to support childcare practices.

This is a vital role in the lives of children and young people cared for at the home. The Registered Manager will work closely with the Responsible Individual and Directors to provide high-quality care.

While the Registered Manager works 40 hours per week, they may be required to work evenings, weekends, and sleeping-in duties in emergencies. They must ensure an appropriate staff presence to meet childcare needs and work in accordance with Children's Homes Regulations.

  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Children Act 1989 and Children's Homes Regulations 2015.
  • Manage child protection matters in line with current legislation, national standards, and best safeguarding practice.
  • Act as the Safeguarding lead for the company, undertaking relevant training.
  • Maintain high childcare standards and implement each child's and young person's agreed placement plan.
  • Mentor and support the Assistant Manager and Senior Residential Childcare Workers in providing best possible childcare practices.
  • Ensure the home is managed effectively and efficiently in a warm and caring manner to achieve the best outcomes for all children and young people.
  • Ensure Senior and Residential Childcare staff focus on providing the best childcare.
  • Participate in J&R Cares Quality Assurance systems, including regulatory compliance, including annual inspections.
  • Manage the budget, meeting minimum requirements of Children's Homes Regulations and National Minimum Standards, working with Directors to manage resources effectively.
  • Supervise and support staff, ensuring the team is developed to meet specific child and young person needs.
  • Ensure effective communication with staff through written information, team briefings, and management meetings.
  • Be personally responsible for anti-oppressive care practices.
  • Work with the Assistant Manager and Seniors to support staff supervision, childcare delivery, and staff development.
  • Develop personal development plans for all staff.
  • Complete probationary and annual performance appraisals for staff.
  • Rota Management.
  • Implement Health and Safety policies and ensure all staff are aware of procedures.
  • Undertake risk assessments as necessary.
  • Record and report incidents/accidents according to procedures.
  • Conduct fire drills and tests, recording necessary data.
