About the Role

VSA, a reputable local social care charity, is seeking a skilled Payroll Assistant to join its Finance Department. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in delivering an efficient and high-quality payroll service, ensuring compliance with legal and statutory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and monitor payroll data, including statutory and contractual obligations, within pre-defined timescales.
  • Manage staffing changes, including starters, transfers, leavers, and amendments to salaries and employee data, in accordance with policy and payroll requirements.
  • Calculate and record sickness payments, statutory maternity, paternity, and adoption payments, as well as travel expenses claims.
  • Prepare information for external agencies, such as mortgage references and Child Support Agency inquiries.
  • Process deductions, including Wage Arrestments and Student Loans, and advise employees and managers on payroll issues.
  • Perform agreed checking and reporting procedures to ensure security and accuracy of payroll data, and reconcile payroll after processing.
  • Process and calculate data for Pension Scheme members, communicating with the Pensions Trust as necessary.
Requirements
  • SCQF level 5 or Standard grade passes or equivalent in English and Maths, at levels 1-3 or National 5 pass at A, B, or C level.
  • Experience of working to deadlines in a busy and fast-paced work environment.
  • IT skills, including Excel, Word, and email.
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with people, both face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Well-organized and able to cope with a busy workload.
