About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon to join our team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Hand Surgeon, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical care to patients with orthopaedic hand conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality clinical care to patients with orthopaedic hand conditions
  • Contribute to the hand trauma rota and develop high-quality research in trauma & elective orthopaedic hand surgery
  • Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
  • Be actively involved in the management of the department, including attendance at regular meetings and away days
  • Take part in annual appraisals and contribute to the development of the department
  • Active involvement in audit and research, including joint research projects with the University of Teesside and York University
About the Department

The Orthopaedic Department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a long tradition of delivering excellent clinical outcomes. The department is committed to training and offers supervised teaching and personal career development for those trainees who wish to develop a career in orthopaedics.

The department has strong links to Teesside University through which it delivers a postgraduate orthopaedic MCh Course, including modules in clinical research. The department has an active academic team, led by Prof Amar Rangan and Prof Paul Baker, which includes senior lecturers, research nurses, and an orthopaedic research scientist.

Requirements
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • FRCS (Orth), FRCS(Plas) or postgraduate diploma in hand surgery
  • Recognised approved hand fellowship
  • On the GMC Specialist Register in orthopaedics, plastics or hand surgery or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Desirable Qualifications
  • Diploma in hand surgery
  • An additional higher qualification relevant to the speciality
Desirable Experience
  • Relevant experience in any declared specialist interest pertinent to the post
  • Evidence of clinical audit
  • One year post-exam fellowship in specialist area of practice
  • Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Evidence of continued medical education
