Role Overview

The Digital IF FPGA Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing digital systems for our fusion energy project, leading the development of a modular HDL framework for real-time control and data acquisition, taking ownership of hardware prototype development, and collaborating with our team of experts in fusion energy, HTS magnet design, numerical modelling, and prototyping.

About Your Role

You will be responsible for designing and developing digital systems for our fusion energy project, which includes:

  • ">
  • Designing peripheral electronics such as amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, memory, etc.">
  • Leading the development of a modular HDL framework for real-time control and data acquisition.">
  • Taking ownership of hardware prototype development.">
  • Liaising with Electronics and PCB engineers.">
  • Supporting/mentoring colleagues in writing HDL and working with FPGAs.">
  • Ensuring magnet development projects stay focused to deliver against the defined SMART objectives of the project.">
  • Liaising with project and program managers as requested.">
  • Possessing skills in using lab equipment, in particular soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analysers, extracting and processing data from instruments for analysis, presenting information to a non-specialist (but still technical) audience, manipulating and displaying data, and having experience with other programming languages, e.g. Rust, Python, knowledge of power electronics, embedded Linux experience with Arm-based processors, networking for real-time applications.">
