About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our Portering Department at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Porter, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our hospital services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients and equipment around the hospital
  • Undertake general mortuary duties and collection and disposal of refuse
  • Frank mail for Royal Mail collection and collect and deliver blood supplies and specimens
  • Carry and respond to a bleep and collect and deliver items from and to the Pharmacy
  • Collection and delivery of Hospital sterilise services items and keep simple records
  • Collection and delivery of food and equipment, beds, bedding equipment, furniture, documents, and mail around the hospital
  • Carry out any other work as requested by the Contract Support Manager or his representative
  • Ensure the trust's waste is segregated correctly and collect and move Clinical, Household/General, and all other waste types from in and around the Hospital site to waste compounds
  • Keep waste rooms free of waste and clear of all clutter and keep waste rooms floors clean and mopped

  • Experience working with the public

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good general standard of education
  • Ability to undertake training and learn new skills
  • Ability to use IT systems
  • Understanding of in-house IT systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, visitors, and members of the public
  • Good level of general physical fitness
  • Ability to undertake heavy manual tasks
  • Ability to be flexible around service needs
