Job Title: Head of Group Market Risk

As we continue to expand our presence in the UK and globally, we're seeking an innovative and experienced Head of Market Risk to join our Energy Markets team. This key leadership role will cover all of Octopus' current and future international supply businesses, requiring a deep understanding of market conditions and risk management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with our supply entities in all countries to understand market conditions and agree on appropriate risk approaches.
  • Develop and implement Group and country-specific Market Risk Policies, consulting with local traders and management.
  • Design and implement analysis and visualizations that collate country-specific risk positions into a single, clear Group view, with delivery supported by the engineering team.
  • Pull together a Group view on weather risk and originate and execute positions to manage this risk.
  • Work closely with local trading management to originate appropriate wholesale deals.
  • Explore the use of asset and consumer flexibility as risk management tools.
  • Generate explanatory materials for senior stakeholders, up to and including the Octopus Energy Group board.
Requirements:
  • Strong numerical ability and understanding of risk.
  • Energy market experience beneficial but not essential.
  • Basic Python knowledge beneficial but not vital.
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects.
  • Interpersonal skills to form trusted relationships with business unit management teams and challenge with empathy and understanding.
