We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior midwife to join our team as a Low Risk and Community Matron. This is a substantive post that requires a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who can lead and support our midwives and maternity support workers to deliver a modern, efficient, high-quality, safe service.
Main Duties of the JobThe successful candidate will have up-to-date clinical skills, leadership abilities, knowledge, and experience, and be familiar with current local and national strategies to improve safety and care in maternity. They will be a passionate advocate for women, birthing people, and their families, and have a strong ethos of midwifery care.
The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team colleagues and key internal and external stakeholders across the service. They will be responsible for leading and supporting the development of the midwifery team, and for ensuring that the service is delivered in a way that meets the needs of women and their families.

Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 2 years' experience of successful operational management at a senior level (band 7 or 8a) in an acute setting
- Experience of management of multiple areas (wards/teams)
- An understanding of the broader agenda facing the service and the ability to drive forwards significant change in practice
They will also have:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write reports at Board level quality and deliver presentations and communicate effectively with colleagues and women/families
- Ability to understand and analyse financial, numerical, and statistical data
- Ability to lead, develop, and motivate staff
- Resilient and confident in adverse situations
- Innovative and creative in the development and leadership of new approaches to care and systems of working
- Excellent time management skills/Able to work to deadlines
- Competent in using Microsoft Office (including Access) and the internet for the purpose of researching, monitoring activity, effectively communicating, and producing reports and training materials
- A clear understanding and application of the principles of professional accountability and confidentiality
- Ability to lead, motivate, and influence individuals both within and external to the organization
- Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring
The successful candidate will also have:
- Experience in managing a service and supporting the professional development of a team
- Highly developed communication and presentation skills
- Able to appropriately convey complex ideas and information to audiences, at all levels across an organisation and to stakeholders, through a range of media
They will also hold:
- Registered Midwife with current registration
- Educated to Masters level or for completion within 12 months of appointment
- Educated to degree level with specialist knowledge of specialty gained through experience or education
- Management/Leadership qualification
