Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high-quality patient-focused pharmacy service, working closely with our dispensary, stores, and distribution teams.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Interpret and accurately dispense prescriptions and requests for medication
  2. Participate in stock supply to wards and departments and re-order as necessary
  3. Receive goods into the department, unpack, check, and put away deliveries against relevant paperwork
  4. Participate in the induction and training of staff
  5. Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
  1. GCSE grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent)
  2. NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF), BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science
  3. Accredited Dispensing Assistants Course (NPA)
  4. Post NVQ level 2 qualification developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser
  5. Understanding of pharmacy related computer systems
  6. Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling, and COSHH
  7. Understanding of dispensing, stock control, and supply systems and processes
  8. Knowledge of stock control systems
  9. Knowledge of code of practice/customer care
  10. Ability to reflect on own practice and learn from experience
  11. Ability to identify customer needs and deliver services to the required level
  12. Ability to communicate at an appropriate level complex information verbally, written, and electronically as required
  13. Ability to work to set procedures
  14. Ability to take responsibility for own work and actions and contribute to the team success
  15. Ability to demonstrate discretion and diplomacy
  16. Strong attention to detail
  17. Reliable
  18. Ability to adapt to change
  19. Ability to prioritise and organise daily tasks using own initiative
  20. Good time management
  21. Ability to travel to all UHB sites
