About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Manager to join our Financial Management (Operational) team at Lancashire County Council.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the finance graduate scheme, mentoring the graduates, and providing guidance and training to budget holders across the Council.
  • Provide salient, practical advice and insight to service areas across the council, playing a pivotal role in the newly formed Resilience and Strategy Team.
  • Translate complex financial information into simple, understandable language for senior managers and Members.
  • Analyse large amounts of internal and external data, completing Central Government returns, and researching government projections and policies.
  • Network and learn from other Councils, gathering intelligence for the County Council on complex financial areas and assessing their impact on the authority and the wider Lancashire area.
Requirements
  • Resilience: persistent and confident when presenting to senior colleagues, with a firm but respectful approach.
  • Challenge: excellent communication skills, ability to prioritise effectively, and a good knowledge of local government funding and its complexities.
  • Service Excellence: reactive and proactive when faced with ad hoc requests, ensuring they are dealt with swiftly and competently.
  • Technical: competency in analysing large amounts of internal and external data, and translating complex financial information into simple, understandable language.
