Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Democratic Services and Governance Officer to join our team at Croydon Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering an efficient Democratic Services function, ensuring that these areas run smoothly, effectively, and support the wider goals of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Agenda and Minutes Management: Draft agendas and minutes of meetings and ensure they are published at the appropriate time and in accordance with relevant statutory deadlines.
  • Meeting Representation: Attend meetings as the representative of the service where Councillors/Members are present.
  • Meeting Guidance: Confidently advise the Chair of meetings on the running of the meeting and interpretation of local government regulations and the Council's Procedure Rules.
  • Decision Monitoring: Monitor and record decisions of Committees and Sub-Committees to ensure they are made correctly and are compliant with local government laws and regulations.
  • Webcasting: Facilitate the webcasting of Council and Committee meetings.
  • Administrative Support: Assist the Democratic Service Team with administrative tasks as required.

Teamwork and Collaboration

The successful candidate will be part of a small team responsible for delivering an efficient Democratic Services function. There is a general responsibility across the team to support each other within the team and service as a whole.

Requirements

  • Understanding of Democratic Process: An understanding of the democratic process involved in local government.
  • Administrative and Organizational Skills: Great administrative and organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to complete multiple tasks to a high standard.
  • Representative Experience: The relevant experience to support and act as representative of the service at meetings of Committees and Sub-Committees.
