Job Overview


The Senior Structural Engineer position at BAE Systems offers a unique opportunity to work with a dual-function team responsible for engineering assessments of designs in support of submarine build.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing and designing complex steel structures utilizing Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to support submarine build
  • Utilizing knowledge of specific regulations and requirements beyond those used within BAE Systems, including LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, and geometric tolerance
  • Applying computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics using Abaqus and S-Frame
  • Supporting manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures, modules, and components
  • Supporting a busy environment by utilizing knowledge of facility and site restrictions applicable to shipping, handling, alignment, and installation of hull units, large equipment, and structures
  • Contributing to the production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent; or HND with extensive years' experience in Civil/Mechanical/Structural Engineering
  • Experience in undertaking hand analysis and design techniques, including report writing
  • Understanding of Eurocodes and British Standards
  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, and knowledge of lifting, handling, and LOLER
  • Working knowledge of ABAQUS, S-Frame, Foran, MathCAD, and Excel
  • Membership of a Professional Institution (IMechE, ICE, IStructE) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or working towards CEng status
