Health and Safety Manager

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Compliance Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental Health and Safety department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as developing and implementing health and safety policies and programs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and audits of facilities and university resources.
- Respond promptly to health and safety incidents and emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures, including training programs for faculty, staff, and students.
- Provide guidance and support to the university community on health and safety matters, including chemical procedures and regulations.
- Perform regular testing and maintenance of emergency management equipment and systems.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations on safety standards.
- Monitor and manage inventory of hazardous materials and emergency response supplies and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records and files of health and safety inspections and reviews.
- Coordinate with external agencies on safety evaluations and services.
- Demonstrated experience implementing environmental health and safety regulatory requirements and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ability to work on-call evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying state and federal regulations related to OSHA and other industry standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety and health principles, laws, techniques, and regulations.
- Skilled in utilizing Microsoft Excel or related spreadsheet software.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Valid, unexpired, and unrestricted driver's license.
- Skilled in the use and operation of testing equipment, tools, and safety personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrated skill in documenting and recording systems and equipment status, utilizing computer systems and software.
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalency diploma.
- Industry standard certification in OSHA and/or other relevant safety programs.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, safety, or related discipline.
