About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Pensions Actuarial Consultant to join our team at Mercer, a leading global consulting firm. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide clients with expert advice on funding, investment, risk transfer, and covenant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver customized advice and solutions to clients, with a primary focus on DB pension schemes.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations, providing informed views on current topics and tailoring advice as appropriate.
  • Utilize strong technical actuarial skills to consult with clients and communicate complex information in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Act as final technical reviewer for actuarial calculations and agree the strategy, direction, and resourcing for client work.
  • Perform supervision, appraisals, and act as a mentor for employees under supervision, or informally via feedback on client work.
  • Act as day-to-day contact for clients, ensuring problem resolution and participating in new business prospect activity.
  • Provide guidance to and peer review the work of colleagues, and participate in setting and negotiating fees, where appropriate.
Requirements
  • Fully qualified Actuary or nearing qualification.
  • Awareness of current pension issues and ability to talk about these and tailor your response to specific circumstances.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills, including a good understanding of actuarial approaches for pensions.
  • Ability to manage projects, including distribution of work to junior colleagues.
  • Strong understanding of a range of ways in which UK pension schemes operate.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and be adaptable in a changing environment.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent planning and organisational abilities, in order to prioritise and complete work.
