Job Summary

This position functions as a key member of the Commonwealth of Virginia's In-Home Unit, responsible for carrying a caseload of In-Home and On-Notices cases. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in social work principles and practices, with the ability to communicate effectively and work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in Family Team Meetings and Child and Family Team Meetings to develop and implement service plans that meet the needs of families.
  • Conduct risk assessments, risk re-assessments, safety assessments, and candidacy determinations to ensure the well-being of children and families.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that identify problems, clinical methods for dealing with them, and the means by which services will be provided.
  • Prepare and submit budget sheets to ensure timely service delivery to families.
  • Interpret laws, policies, and regulations related to human services program areas and social, economic, and health problems.
  • Complete necessary federal, state, and local planning and reporting requirements.
  • Establish and maintain case records, including entering and updating information regarding caseload within the automated system.
  • Assist with transport and supervision for children and families as needed.
  • Serve as a resource to clients and community workers, and participate in committees as a community member.
  • Represent the agency in civil and criminal court proceedings, including interpreting laws, filing petitions, preparing court records, testifying before the court, and compiling evidence.
  • Provide direct intervention and service delivery for difficult, complex social work cases.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
  • Considerable knowledge of social work principles and practices, human behaviors and motivational theory, laws, policies, and regulations related to human services program areas, and social, economic, and health problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to testify in court proceedings.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and maintain diplomacy.
  • Ability to plan and manage own work activities, including service delivery, preparing reports, and correspondence, record keeping responsibilities, and related activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
  • Ability to stay abreast of current trends and developments in the social work field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Considerable experience in Child Protective Services and/or CPS Ongoing Services.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
  • BSW/MSW degree.
