Job Title: Business Operations Manager

Estimated Salary: £29,580 - £38,700 per annum (inclusive of additional pension contribution)

About the Position

The Ministry of Defence seeks a highly skilled Business Operations Manager to oversee the Public Cash and Bank Account, Non-Public Accounting, and assist the Station Business Manager with In-Year management as required.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week with the potential to work from home on Fridays.


Main Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the Accounts Flight, ensuring smooth financial operations.
  • Manage Public Cash and Bank Account and Non-Public Accounting, including:
    • Conducting formal responsibility checks for handovers/takeovers of the Public Bank Account and Service Funds Bank Account.
    • Operating the station's Service Funds bank accounts on a daily basis, maintaining precise financial records.
    • Reconciling Service Funds Bank Accounts, settling credit transactions, and providing monthly statements.
    • Maintaining accurate financial records, adhering to regulatory requirements.
    • Creating and maintaining the Service Funds Risk Register.
    • Reviewing and managing the Station Investment Policy according to current regulations.
  • Manage all aspects of business management regarding the annual Public Accounting Compliance Review and the Internal Control & Assurance Framework.
  • Line Manage 2x Admin Officer Accounts Clerks and 1x Locally Employed Civilian.
  • Interpret policy to make informed decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.

Professional Development and Training
  1. Participate in Equality and Diversity training to promote inclusivity.
  2. Complete People Operations – Accounts (Public Management) 1-week online course to enhance skills.
  3. Take part in Accounts (Service Funds Accounting) 2-week online course to develop expertise.
  4. Earn a Financial Skills Certificate to demonstrate proficiency.
  5. Leverage previous Accounts Auditing Experience to inform decision-making.
  6. Develop IT skills, including ModNet, Sharepoint, Microsoft Excel & Word, and Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Qualification or Training would be beneficial if held.
  7. Focus on Managing a Quality Service to ensure excellence.
