About the Job

We are seeking a seasoned Deputy Technical Director to join our production team and lead show operations teams in delivering world-class technical functions.

Your key responsibilities will include managing contracts, budgets, scheduling & resource planning, overseeing relationships with subcontracted production partners, and upholding outstanding show artistic quality in collaboration with the Resident Artistic Director and artistic and stage management teams.

Key tasks include:

  • Ensuring compliance with show standards set by creative producers
  • Managing external supplier/vendor relationships and contracts
  • Solely managing activity across the venue site, ensuring equipment and staffing are sufficient and able to work safely and with excellence
  • Collaborating with the Resident Artistic Director and Production Stage Manager to maintain outstanding show artistic quality
  • Ensuring venue safety and excellent venue presentation alongside site teams
  • Overseeing equipment planning and procurement
  • Investigating and reporting technical issues affecting show quality
  • Providing logistical support, including international shipping, customs documentation and on-site equipment as needed

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Managing the budget for show technical operations, working closely with the Finance team
  • Optimising resource allocation and identifying revenue opportunities
  • Encouraging a proactive approach to risk, health and safety across technical operations
  • Maintaining technical documentation and standards
  • Implementing compliance training as required

Leadership Expectations:

  • Leading and guiding all technical staff through clear goals for performance & development
  • Contributing to production's strategic planning
  • Fostering a diverse and collaborative work environment
  • Identifying and nurturing potential leaders across the team
  • Fulfilling Director-level duties on site, including management shifts, internal and external meetings

About You:

  • Extensive leadership experience in large-scale entertainment production
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams across multiple work environments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Strong operational analysis and improvement skills
  • Able to prioritise, multi-task with accuracy, maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Competence & confidence to lead, coach & nurture talent
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Taking a calm & practical approach to issue resolution
  • Proficient in MS Office and CAD software or similar
