Key Responsibilities

This role offers an exciting chance for a Hearing Care Specialist to join our team on a flexible basis. In this position, you will be responsible for conducting hearing evaluations for adults of varying ages, managing all standard components of audiometric assessments, and performing hearing aid evaluations, fittings, validations, and ongoing support for adults and their families.

Job Duties

We are in search of a candidate who can:

  • Conduct hearing evaluations for adults of all ages, including taking patient histories and engaging in discussions with patients and/or caregivers as necessary.
  • Perform all standard audiometric testing procedures, including audiometry (air and bone conduction), tympanometry, and acoustic reflex testing.
  • Carry out hearing aid evaluations, fittings, validations, and provide ongoing support for adults and families, utilizing both analogue and digital signal processing instruments in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Take aural impressions for patients of all ages, following the recommended procedures set by the British Society of Audiology.
  • Conduct hearing aid validations using Real Ear Measurement systems, Real Ear to Coupler Difference (RECD), and free field testing as appropriate, and respond appropriately to data obtained from insertion gain testing.
  • Promote a patient-centered approach and apply these principles throughout the service.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, such as cochlear implant teams, as necessary.
  • Modify NHS hearing aids and ear molds as required.
  • Attend regular training sessions and update meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in the maintenance and calibration of technical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Assist in managing appropriate stock levels.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in Audiology or equivalent qualifications, such as BAAT (parts I & II) plus BTEC in Medical Physics & Physiological Measurement, or a Diploma in Higher Education in Audiology.
  • A minimum of one year of practical experience in an Audiology Department as part of the degree program or one year of experience in NHS audiology.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in communicating complex clinical information to patients with hearing impairments, their families, and caregivers.
  • Competent in using computerized patient management systems.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, along with effective written communication abilities.
  • Capable of developing appropriate clinical management strategies based on patient history and relevant test results.
  • Theoretical knowledge of digital hearing aid fitting.
