About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Environmental Planner to join our team at Gaia Talent. As a key member of our Planning & Development Team, you will be responsible for leading planning projects, providing expert advice to clients and stakeholders, and contributing to the growth and success of our business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Take the lead on planning projects, including the submission of applications, monitoring throughout the determination process, responding to comments, and discharging planning conditions.
  • Client Advice: Provide expert advice to clients on planning matters, including the preparation of planning reports and environmental statements.
  • Team Collaboration: Liaise with internal and external consultants, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Community Engagement: Lead community consultation efforts for planning projects, ensuring effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Report Preparation: Prepare environmental reports, including EIA Screening Reports, EIA Scoping Reports, Environmental Statements, and non-technical summaries.
  • Technical Review: Conduct technical review and QA of planning submission documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Team Development: Contribute to team development, team performance, and coaching/supervision of supporting staff.
  • Bid Preparation: Participate in bid preparation, tender submissions, and business development efforts.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: BSc or MSc in Environmental Planning, EIA, or Town Planning, or other relevant discipline.
  • Professional Chartership: Professional chartership (IEMA/RTPI) or progression towards this would be viewed favorably.
  • Experience: Proven track record of working in a planning/multi-disciplinary consultancy in the UK, with experience in leading planning and EIA projects for renewables, minerals, waste, residential, or industrial developments.
  • Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of planning legislation and processes across the UK, EIA legislation and processes, environmental assessment techniques, and methodologies.
  • Skills: Report writing, technical review, project management, written and verbal communication, and comfortable engaging with key project stakeholders.
