About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Environmental Planner to join our team at Gaia Talent. As a key member of our Planning & Development Team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality environmental planning services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on planning projects, including the submission of applications, monitoring throughout the determination process, responding to comments and discharging planning conditions.
  • Provide expert advice to clients and the wider team on environmental planning matters.
  • Liaise with internal and external consultants, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Take the lead on community consultation for planning projects, ensuring effective engagement and communication with local communities.
  • Prepare high-quality environmental reports, including EIA Screening Reports, EIA Scoping Reports, Environmental Statements, and non-technical summaries.
  • Prepare planning reports, including Planning Statements, Design and Access Statements, Pre-Application Consultation Reports, and other relevant documents.
  • Conduct technical review and QA of planning submission documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support the wider Planning & Development Team as needed, contributing to the success of the team and the company.
  • Be actively involved in bid preparation, tender submissions, and business development, helping to grow the company's presence in the market.
  • Take responsibility for team development, team performance, and coaching/supervision of supporting staff, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver high-quality services.
Requirements
  • BSc or MSc in Environmental Planning, EIA, Town Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Full UK driving license with a clean driving record.
  • Professional chartership (IEMA/RTPI) or progression towards this would be viewed favorably.
  • Proven track record of working in a planning/multi-disciplinary consultancy in the UK.
  • Experience leading planning and EIA projects for renewables, minerals, waste, residential, or industrial developments.
  • Detailed knowledge of planning legislation and processes across the UK.
  • Detailed knowledge of EIA legislation and processes across the UK.
  • Detailed knowledge of environmental assessment techniques and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with key project stakeholders, including consultees and the local community.
  • Project management skills.
