Job Summary

The postholder will provide an Occupational Therapy service for children who experience difficulties in their functional abilities or skills development in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure in accordance with the service level agreement for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

They will contribute to the development of the Occupational Therapy service for children, planning and providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, advice, and treatment for children with functional difficulties, working closely with the multidisciplinary team, school staff, and families.

Main Duties of the Job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • To provide a specialist paediatric Occupational Therapy service to a defined caseload.
  • To be responsible for a clinical caseload of children with a Sutton GP or an Education Health and Care Plan as commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton and Health Commissioners.
  • To use standardised and non-standardised assessment, interview, and observation skills to determine the needs of children and effectively set goals and plan intervention.
  • To be responsible for a defined caseload, ensuring time management to enable effective service provision.

Management Responsibility/Professional Leadership

  • To assist the children's Occupational Therapy Team Leader in planning and providing appropriate Occupational Therapy input to children in Sutton, including attendance at meetings, developing guidelines and protocols, and reviewing service provision.
  • To keep the Team Leader up-to-date with service provision issues and report any untoward incidents, clinical or non-clinical, promptly, co-operating with any investigation undertaken.
  • To actively review the efficacy of service delivery and facilitate the setting up of new standards or amending existing ones, in close liaison with the Team.
  • To keep up-to-date with the Department and Trust standards and policies and facilitate the dissemination of this knowledge to colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered with HCPC.

Desirable

  • Relevant post-registration specialist education - ideally sensory integration training levels 1 and 2.

Experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge/experience in paediatric Occupational Therapy or appropriate experience in other Occupational Therapy settings which brings relevant transferable skills.
  • Experience of working with children with ASD, neurological conditions, coordination disorders, and functional needs.

Desirable

  • Knowledge/experience in the use of relevant assessment and treatment approaches and practices, including the use of standardised assessments.
