We are committed to improving the patient experience and are seeking a talented individual to join our team as a Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer.

About The Role

This is a critical position that will play a key role in the growth and development of our team.

As a Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the design and delivery of engineering solutions for various project types and sizes.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers, delivering consistent and repeatable solutions that meet our high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the research and development of new innovative products that support our goal of revolutionizing healthcare.
  • Determine department goals and develop cohesive plans to ensure the team meets deadlines.
  • Provide expert guidance to the R&D team, supporting them to achieve their and our wider business goals.
  • Produce and maintain full project planning schedules, allocation of the team, and priorities across projects, taking into account project dependencies, costs, and risks.
  • Define the vision for future KwickScreen products, driven by ever-changing user needs.
  • Lead the recruitment process, including selection and interviewing of new candidates when necessary.
  • Provide individual contribution to projects based on personal expertise and specialism within your field.
  • Lead the team on:
    • Solving complex engineering problems and applying solutions to a broad spectrum of products and systems, with precision.
    • Design of products from the concept stage through to production, following an iterative design process.
    • Constructing and testing prototypes, making necessary modifications as testing progresses.
    • Conducting rigorous testing protocols to ensure new product development is fit for the market.
    • Solving issues within our existing product line, and coming up with new innovative ways to improve them - rapidly and efficiently.
    • Determining materials, equipment, and manufacturing processes used in the production of our products.
    • Effectively moving products from the R&D stage seamlessly into production.
    • Producing final design information, including parts list, assembly layout, BOM's, and technical drawings.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • MEng in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Extensive technical and practical experience in mechanical engineering, including experience in leading multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • An engineering professional with a very high level of technical competency and ideally 10+ years of experience working at a high level within mechanical engineering.
  • Proven capability in leading teams on product development, design for manufacture, new product introduction, production engineering, and continuous improvement.
  • Naturally strong leadership qualities.
  • Able to communicate effectively with the team and wider business.
  • Proven ability to work against extremely tight deadlines in a hands-on role.
  • Desired experience:
    • Hands-on manufacturing experience and making skills.
    • Proven expertise in a typical 3D CAD system, ideally Solidworks or Onshape.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary and a range of benefits, including:

  • 25 holiday days (with the option to buy back 5 more + bank holidays).
  • A fantastic workspace in the heart of South London, boasting a large workshop and 3D printing lab.
  • Continued technical support from leaders in their field.
  • Performance-based bonus scheme.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
