We are seeking an experienced and skilled individual to take on the role of Head of Patient Safety at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. As a key member of our Risk and Patient Safety team, you will be responsible for leading and developing the incident investigation team to ensure high-quality investigations are conducted.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in safety science and experience in applying Human Factors approaches to investigate incidents. They will also possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction for patient safety within the Trust based on the National Patient Safety Strategy. You will work closely with the CASLO to ensure compliance with national patient safety alerts and implement actions to address any gaps. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and overseeing risks associated with patient safety and ensuring they are managed robustly.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead, line-manage, and develop the incident investigation team to ensure high-quality investigations are conducted in an impartial and professional manner.
  • Support the shift focus of incident investigation to identify systems failures, analyze Human Factors, and promote a Just and Restorative Culture within the Trust.
  • Provide expert guidance on patient safety investigation methodology and support subject matter experts in completing learning responses that meet Patient Safety Incident Investigation (PSII) criteria.
Requirements
  • Relevant experience in safety investigation and application of Human Factors approaches.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
