Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecoms Technician to join our team at Speedcast. As a Telecoms Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all communication systems installed and operated by our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance support for communication systems, including equipment alignment, substitution, and repair.
  • Carry out planned maintenance routines as defined in client maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Eliminate telecommunications faults as they occur.
  • Install and modify equipment under client change control and modification procedures.
  • Provide front-line support for IT equipment and assist with resolving IT issues onboard.
  • Ensure safety-critical systems are fully operational and backed up at all times.
  • Report any abnormal occurrences or equipment failures to platform OIM and Onshore Telecoms Support.
  • Amend system diagrams and documents as necessary.
  • Ensure documentation is updated and maintained according to client document management procedures.
  • Liaise with and assist the client's onshore Telecoms department.
  • Liaise with GSOC Team Leader, Maintenance Planner, and other platform personnel to ensure high standards of communication.
  • Assist and supervise vendors or other third parties as required.
  • Manage the procurement and maintenance of spare parts, consumables, and associated materials.
  • Assist other departments and personnel as required.
  • Prepare and submit daily and weekly reports to clients in Aberdeen, indicating work carried out, equipment status, and usage of major spares.

Radio Operator Scope

  • Provide support for emergency situations, maintaining a state of readiness at all times.
  • Maintain radio watch for all helicopter flights and assist with logistics as required.
  • Perform additional ad-hoc radio operator duties as necessary.
  • Carry out routine operational duties in the radio room using typical equipment.
  • Control the issue, use, and return of hand-portable radio inventory.
  • Update and administer operational administration documents under the instruction of platform management.

Requirements

  • Experience in a technical role.
  • Good knowledge of typical offshore Telecom/IT equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in emergency situations.
  • Operation of marine and aviation radio equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening, and diplomacy skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills, with the ability to work well with a wide range of people.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Telecoms-related HNC (ONC if very experienced).

Certifications

  • GMDSS General Operators Certificate.
  • CAA Offshore Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (Restricted).
  • Equivalent Military or Marine Qualifications.
  • Combined Offshore Survival Certificate (BOSIET).
  • COMPEX Hazardous Areas.
  • Offshore UK Medical.
  • Offshore Met Observer (CAP-437).
  • Escape Chute Certificate.
  • MIST.
