Job Title: Configuration Manager

Thales is seeking a skilled Configuration Manager to join our team. As a Configuration Manager, you will be responsible for the registration and release of data managed in configuration, ensuring the integrity, validity, and maintenance of records relating to the data, including traceability and history over the entire life cycle.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly regarded team that will support your learning and development. As a Configuration Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing CM planning for new and existing projects, defining an effective tailored CM implementation.
  • Supporting the identification of contract/subcontract requirements to ensure effective CM performance of partners and suppliers.
  • Creating, maintaining, and implementing the CM Plan in accordance with policies and contractual/tender requirements.
  • Specifying, maintaining, and ensuring compliance of CM Contractor and Supplier requirements.
  • Auditing and assessing Contractors and Suppliers to ensure CM processes, systems, and deliverables meet requirements.
  • Ensuring the correct definition of the product and its defining data.
  • Participating in the design/stage reviews (PDR, CDR...).
  • Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of configuration baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL).
  • Participating in the selection of configuration items and subsequent product breakdown structures and Bills of Materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining the configuration change management system, including internal and external CCBs and performing the Configuration Control Board (CCB) Secretary role.
  • Coordinating and controlling the configuration change process for design change, including item change, document change, deviations, and waivers.
  • Ensuring design change is traceable throughout design and implementation.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and releasing the CSAR used to describe the configuration management phases and milestone achievement to track design evolution and implementation.
  • Capturing, verifying, and controlling 'as built', 'as installed', 'as tested', and 'as maintained' configuration information.
  • Planning and conducting configuration verifications and configuration audits (PCA & FCA).
  • Supporting a pro-active, 'can-do' attitude within the function and encouraging innovative thinking.
  • Performing CM team task delegation within the team.
  • Providing feedback on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment.
  • Reporting on CM Key Performance Indicators.
  • Supporting the generation of estimates.
  • Ensuring a flow of information downwards of the main issues being addressed by Engineering.
About You

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Configuration Manager who has:

  • Mastery of the standard Thales configuration management processes and tools, particularly those linked with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • A good knowledge of the operational processes and methods (Bid & projects, Engineering, Production, Services).
  • Great knowledge of system integration principles (System, Hardware, and Software).
  • Mastery of relevant tools like those related to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • The ability to adapt and assess the configuration management system as well as the contractual and commercial requirements within your scope.
  • Knowledge of Lean Management approach and Agile principles to the management and development of the team.
  • The ability to manage complexity and thrive in changing environments.
  • Knowledge in Hardware & Software CM practices and tools.
  • The ability to create buy-in explaining/detailing your needs and initiatives.
  • Previous experience with configuration management in either defence, engineering organisations, or experience in delivery of MOD projects.
  • Experience in working to standards such as DEF Stan or similar is highly desirable.
  • This role will require full SC clearance, either current or ability to gain full clearance is essential.
