Professor/Senior Clinician in Soft Tissue Surgery

To deliver a high-quality Soft Tissue Surgery service by providing expertise and clinical activity in the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to the School's objectives by enhancing and developing the delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduates, clinical scholars, and undertaking clinical scholarship.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Provide specialized advice to external referring practices and owners, maintaining a clinical referral workload to support commercial, teaching, and research activities.
- Support the development of novel approaches and techniques to aid diagnosis and treatment, enhancing the income generation capability of the service.
- Participate in the out-of-hours service, ensuring adequate cover for direct supervision, advice, and expertise when required.
- Contribute to the implementation and validation of clinical quality assurance measures.
- Support the planning, organization, and delivery of training requirements for clinical scholars, supervising clinical duties and research projects.
- Participate in practical and professional bodies related to the service area at national and international levels.
- Ensure compliance with continuing professional development requirements and participate in promotional activities.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the academic discipline of the Division, developing links with external bodies to maintain high professional standards.
- Engage in the planning, organization, and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities, and the Clinical Scholar didactic program.
- Support and encourage the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, contributing to the University's Quality Enhancement Strategy.
- Deliver a range of assessment activities and engage fully in the examination process, providing effective feedback to students.
- Conduct personal scholarship of an external reputation, maintaining a consistent output of publications in high-quality refereed clinical journals and/or textbooks.
- Collaborate in clinical scholarship projects and trials, presenting findings at national and international meetings to ensure a high profile for the School and the University of Glasgow.
- Contribute to the administrative work of the Hospital/Division as assigned by the Clinical Director/Head of Division.
- Contribute to performance and development review processes as appropriate, in accordance with university strategy.
The successful candidate will possess a veterinary degree registerable with the RCVS, prior training and experience in Soft Tissue Surgery, and a postgraduate clinical qualification relevant to Soft Tissue Surgery. For appointment at Grade 10, an excellent record of research in small animal cardiology and an established reputation in an internationally competitive field of research are required.
Terms and ConditionsThe Professor appointment will be subject to the whole powers and conditions of any Act of Parliament, Ordinances, and Law affecting the University. The appointment is a whole-time appointment, with the Professor undertaking to accept paid outside work only with the prior consent of the University Court.
