Job Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Research Professor of Genomics and Animal Health to join our team at the University of Glasgow.

About the Role

The successful candidate will lead research projects in comparative genomics and animal health, contributing to the strategic direction of the School/College through high-quality teaching and research. They will also secure research funding, provide academic leadership, and engage with external stakeholders to advance knowledge exchange and public understanding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research projects in comparative genomics and animal health, participating in the development of College/School research strategy
  • Act as principal investigator or project leader on major research projects, securing funding from external sources
  • Develop and implement individual and/or joint research projects, publishing high-quality and impactful research
  • Take a lead in major funding bids, including Knowledge Exchange, to support the subject area and recognised excellence for the University
  • Undertake academic management and leadership roles, ensuring high-quality course/programme administration and leading on policy and practice development
  • Create effective networks with students, veterinary clinicians, and external stakeholders to embed key University priorities
  • Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment, recognising diverse student needs
  • Regularly attend and participate in activities to contribute to the subject specialism, disseminating research findings locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Supervise individual student projects, assisting with difficulties and promoting effective development
  • Engage with clinicians to support clinical research and develop joint research projects
Requirements
  • PhD in animal biology, genomics, and health or related discipline, with an established reputation in research and significant teaching experience
  • Recognised expertise in comparative genomics or related omics discipline, developing new knowledge and understanding within the field
  • Sustained track record of published research of international standard, compatible with enhancing the School's submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
  • Established track record of securing research funding, efficiently deploying resources in support of major research and teaching activities
  • Ability to disseminate complex ideas to various audiences, fostering collaboration across the University and with colleagues in other institutions
What We Offer

A competitive salary range of £57,696 - £64,914 per annum, plus a start-up package including a three-year postdoctoral research assistant, a PhD studentship, bioinformatic and/or lab support, and a significant consumable budget.
