As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will collaborate within the Surgical OU Research and Development organization and across the Medtronic enterprise to define an innovative new solution for intraoperative support.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include:

  • Identifying technical solutions that fit within the defined boundaries of our current technical constraints.
  • Documenting enterprise-level use cases to inform potential business cases and product development strategies.
  • Performing functional analyses, detailed trade-off studies to supplement product design decisions, requirements allocations at system and subsystem levels, and interface definition to translate stakeholder needs into requirements and product specifications.
  • Performing technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation, evaluating alternatives including cost and risk, supportability, and analyses for product and system.
  • Analysing at all levels of product and system to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Identifying test methodology and authorizing test procedures to ensure system verification and design validation.

Must Haves

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Systems, Electrical, Biomedical, Aerospace, Chemical or Software Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant systems engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of relevant systems engineering experience.
  • Systems Engineering subject matter expertise.
  • Robust leadership and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in new product development.
  • Strong experience developing complex software or electromechanical medical devices.
  • Excellent understanding of design controls and good documentation practices.
  • Experience in applying regulatory standards to products (IEC 60601, 14971, 62366, 62304, ISO 13485 or aerospace equivalents).

Nice to Haves

We would like to see:

  • Experience with wireless communications systems, modern digital video protocols and multiple function device products.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in requirements generation, flow down, allocation and management.
  • Experience in applying system engineering processes methods in the concept, development, and test life cycle phases.
  • Experience in requirements management, risk management, and system architecture development.
  • Advanced knowledge of system-level hardware and software design and development, requirements definition, analysis, and risk mitigation.
  • Experience working with multiple teams on concurrent, interdependent projects.
  • Experience in Agile-scrum development within a regulated industry.
  • Experience in design for reliability, manufacturability, and security.
