About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Programmable Elements Safety Specialist to join our Integrated Combat Systems team in various UK locations. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing cutting-edge systems for the UK's future submarine fleet.

Job Description

The Combat System encompasses the submarine's 'fight capability', including navigation, command and control, and communication systems. In this position, you will conduct Programmable Elements Safety Engineering activities and analysis on all areas of the combat system, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting comprehensive safety engineering activities, including PHA, FTA, and PSSA/SSA in support of the Combat System Design Safety Justification and Whole Boat Safety Case.
  • Determining the causes of systematic Programmable Elements Safety failures and common cause analysis.
  • Defining and monitoring Programmable Elements Safety Requirements and compliance with CASS TOES.
  • Organising and contributing to Hazard Identification workshops and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Engaging with third parties to review and gather supporting Programmable Elements Safety evidence in accordance with Def Stan 00-055.
  • Reporting the progress of Programmable Elements Safety Engineering activities at Project and Programme reviews.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Demonstrable experience in Programmable Elements Safety Engineering and activities contributing to the production of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) allocation documents.
  • Able to demonstrate experience in understanding safety of systems with Programmable Elements in accordance with Def Stan 00-055 and Def Stan 00-056.
  • Experience in Safety Engineering and Programmable Elements Safety Requirements in accordance with IEC/BS EN 61508 in the defence domain.
  • Able to demonstrate competence in rigour of Software Development Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Design Assurance Level (DAL) depending on industry experience.
Salary and Benefits

This is a competitive position offering a salary in the range of £65,000 - £90,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additional benefits include a pension scheme, annual leave allowance, and access to a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. You will also have opportunities for flexible working arrangements and professional development within the company.
