We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Submarine Platform Engineer to join our Integration, Instrumentation, and Controls equipment (I&ICE) team at BAE Systems.

About the Role:

In this critical position, you will be responsible for designing, developing, integrating, managing, and supporting control systems for in-service/future submarines. The successful candidate will be working on high-integrity control systems that control the submarine platform manoeuvrability elements, employing niche and novel technologies onto the submarine platform which hasn't been done before.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment specification and analysis, Part and BOM creation
  2. Understanding customers' challenging needs and developing, validating, and managing requirements
  3. Working with system owners, suppliers, and the customer to support manufacture and delivery of C&I equipment
  4. Developing C&I systems and test systems while providing evidence of fitness for purpose
  5. Compilation of technical system documentation and schematics to include system design, functional design, validation, verification, test, qualification, and manufacture contracts
  6. Integrating systems containing electronic, mechanical, and software sub-systems, understanding the potential impact on the whole boat and interfacing systems
  7. Verifying that customer needs are satisfied through qualification and test activities
  8. Leading technical work packages, managing design, and deliverable evidence

Your Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will require a degree-level qualification in a relevant STEM subject (Engineering/Physics/Maths/Science) and a Chartered Engineer status or working towards it. You should also have experience with leading and coaching others, knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle, and good systems engineering practices. Additionally, awareness of Defence Standards and Industry standards such as IEC 61508/61511, ARP 4754, DO-178C/DO-254 is desirable.
