Biomedical Scientist Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high-quality, patient-focused service in the laboratory, working closely with the departmental team to deliver a cost-effective and efficient service.
Main Responsibilities:- Participate in the routine work of the laboratory, following laboratory procedures to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and safe working practices.
- Contribute to the maintenance of accreditation requirements, ensuring compliance with UKAS standards.
- Carry out laboratory analyses, including reporting results, maintaining records, and documenting procedures.
- Undertake specialized analytical work in designated areas of the department.
- Participate in departmental rosters, taking delegated responsibility for quality control, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Supervise, train, and coach staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Assist in the development of new methods and the implementation of new technology, ensuring the department remains at the forefront of laboratory practice.
- Produce, maintain, and implement Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring consistency and quality across the department.
- State registered BMS (HCPC registration) is essential.
- Knowledge of instrumentation, method development, and new technologies is desirable.
- At least 12 months UKAS accredited (ISO hospital laboratory experience covering duties explained in J.D.) is essential.
- Supervisory skills and ability to organize work effectively are essential.
- Experience of Microbiology as a single specialist discipline is essential.
- Completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in medical microbiology is essential.
The post holder will be required to work shifts to cover 24/7 working patterns, including on-call provision as required.
