Our Manufacturing Process

We have a vast direct-to-store (DTS) distribution network, comprising of 17 depots nationwide, which enables us to make over 10,400 daily deliveries of our own chilled and frozen produce and that of third parties.

At our Manton Wood site, we have a team of around 1,700 colleagues who produce sandwiches and wraps for some of the biggest retailers in the UK. Our site features a gym, restaurant with hot food, and a staff shop available to all our colleagues.

Job Responsibilities

As a Process Development Technologist, you will be responsible for carrying out all relevant manufacturing projects to deliver process development and line trials successfully. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing information to support the creation of customer and factory specifications, which lead to the production of accurate and appropriate product labeling information.
  • Being responsible for the planning, preparation, and successful execution of process development and line trials to deliver customer requirements and process improvements.
  • Providing process guidance and advice to cross-functional manufacturing teams to promote adoption of new practices or processes for increased efficiency.
  • Monitoring and communicating process trends to ensure launch date adherence, maximum process optimization, and effective communication to customers.
  • Challenging and investigating potential continuous improvement projects and facilitating relevant trials to drive process and product enhancements opportunities.
  • Ensuring the output of all line trials are fully documented with adherence to food safety, quality standards, and customer requirements are met.
  • Assessing equipment capability to ensure that process standards are in line with company and customer requirements to drive improvements.
  • Ensuring that a safe working environment exists for colleagues and that as a minimum the department meets the standards set out in the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy.

Requirements

We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced Process Development Technologist who has a degree in a food science or related subject, plus relevant working experience within a food manufacturing environment. You should have relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Food Hygiene, Level 2 Health and Safety, HACCP Level 2, Sensory Training Level 2, and Microbiological Training Level 2.

You should have experience in evaluation and interpretation of shelf-life results, interpretation of customer codes of practice, and working with different types of computer programs. You should also have knowledge of legal labeling legislation and a variety of retailer web-based systems.
