Process Development Specialist

Our BusinessWe supply all the UK's food retailers with a wide range of products, from sandwiches and soups to cooking sauces, pickles, and ready meals. In FY23, we generated revenues of £1.9bn. Our direct-to-store (DTS) distribution network enables us to make over 10,400 daily deliveries of our own chilled and frozen produce and that of third parties.
Our TeamAt Manton Wood, we have a team of around 1,700 colleagues who produce sandwiches and wraps for some of the biggest retailers in the UK, including Co-op, Asda, Morrisons, Boots, Aldi, and Lidl. Our site has a gym, restaurant with hot food, and a staff shop available to all our colleagues.
The RoleWe're looking for a Process Development Technologist to carry out all relevant manufacturing projects to deliver process development and line trials successfully. As a key member of our team, you will:
- Provide information to support the creation of customer and factory specifications, leading to the production of accurate and appropriate product labelling information.
- Be responsible for the planning, preparation, and successful execution of process development and line trials to deliver customer requirements and process improvements.
- Provide process guidance and advice to cross-functional manufacturing teams to promote adoption of new practices or processes for increased efficiency.
- Monitor and communicate process trends to ensure launch date adherence, maximum process optimisation, and effective communication to customers.
- Challenging and investigating potential continuous improvement projects and facilitate relevant trials to drive process and product enhancements opportunities.
- Ensure the output of all line trials are fully documented with adherence to food safety, quality standards, and customer requirements are met.
- Assess equipment capability to ensure that process standards are in line with company and customer requirements to drive improvements.
- Ensure that a safe working environment exists for colleagues and that as a minimum the department meets the standards set out in the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy.
We're looking for someone with a degree in a food science or related subject, plus relevant working experience within a food manufacturing environment. Relevant qualifications are essential, including Level 3 Food Hygiene, Level 2 Health and Safety, HACCP Level 2, Sensory Training Level 2, and Microbiological Training Level 2. Experience in evaluation and interpretation of shelf-life results, interpretation of customer codes of practice, and working with different types of computer programmes is desirable.
