Our BusinessWe supply all the UK's food retailers with a wide range of products, from sandwiches and soups to cooking sauces, pickles, and ready meals. In FY23, we generated revenues of £1.9bn. Our direct-to-store (DTS) distribution network enables us to make over 10,400 daily deliveries of our own chilled and frozen produce and that of third parties.
Our TeamAt Manton Wood, we have a team of around 1,700 colleagues who produce sandwiches and wraps for some of the biggest retailers in the UK, including Co-op, Asda, Morrisons, Boots, Aldi, and Lidl. Our site offers a gym, restaurant with hot food, and a staff shop available to all our colleagues.
Job SummaryWe are seeking a Process Development Technologist to carry out manufacturing projects to deliver process development and line trials successfully. The successful candidate will provide information to support the creation of customer and factory specifications, plan and execute process development and line trials, and provide process guidance and advice to cross-functional manufacturing teams.
Key Responsibilities- Provide information to support the creation of customer and factory specifications.
- Plan, prepare, and execute process development and line trials to deliver customer requirements and process improvements.
- Provide process guidance and advice to cross-functional manufacturing teams.
- Monitor and communicate process trends to ensure launch date adherence, maximum process optimisation, and effective communication to customers.
- Challenging and investigating potential continuous improvement projects and facilitate relevant trials to drive process and product enhancements opportunities.
- Ensure the output of all line trials are fully documented with adherence to food safety, quality standards, and customer requirements are met.
- Assess equipment capability to ensure that process standards are in line with company and customer requirements to drive improvements.
- Ensure that a safe working environment exists for colleagues and that as a minimum the department meets the standards set out in the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy.
- Ideal education to degree level in a food science or related subject, plus relevant working experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Relevant qualifications essential, such as Level 3 Food Hygiene, Level 2 Health and Safety, HACCP Level 2, Sensory Training Level 2, and Microbiological Training Level 2.
- Experienced in evaluation and interpretation of shelf-life results, interpretation of customer codes of practice, and working with different types of computer programmes.
- Knowledge of legal labelling legislation and a variety of retailer web-based systems is desirable.
- Understanding of technology relevant to business area and area of responsibility and a demonstratable understanding of technical key performance indicators.
