The Mission Possible Partnership (MPP) is a coalition of climate advocates and enterprises committed to driving decarbonization across the most carbon-intensive sectors, including aluminum, cement, chemicals, steel, aviation, shipping, and trucking. MPP is pioneering innovative strategies and fostering collaborative efforts to facilitate commercial-scale initial projects during this critical decade.
The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) is a global initiative aimed at accelerating decarbonization in heavy-emitting sectors. By leveraging extensive networks across industries, financial entities, and governmental bodies, it unites global leaders to mobilize substantial investments for the swift implementation of decarbonization strategies. The goal is to significantly enhance the pipeline of commercially viable, clean industrial projects by 2030, aligning with the Paris Agreement's objectives for high-emission industries and transportation.
Established at the COP28 World Climate Action Summit, the ITA collaborates with international institutions, corporate and financial leaders, and industry groups to expedite the decarbonization of challenging sectors. The ITA's Secretariat operates under MPP.
Role Overview:
MPP offers an exciting opportunity for a Senior Specialist in Chemicals and Fuels to contribute to the execution of the ITA work program.
The Specialist will utilize their extensive knowledge, familiarity with comprehensive project life cycles, and industry connections to aid in the strategic development and execution of various ITA initiatives. This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while also leading and delivering specific projects and tasks as necessary. The Specialist will serve as a primary external contact for corporations within their area of expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the strategic planning and execution of projects and initiatives related to chemicals and fuels, with a focus on hydrogen, its derivatives, and other low-emission alternatives.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for ITA.
- Lead projects and specific deliverables related to chemicals and fuels, ensuring adherence to established timelines.
- Establish and maintain relationships with a diverse range of public and private sector stakeholders in relevant industries.
- Collaborate with other ITA project leaders to address rapidly evolving priorities.
Qualifications:
- Mid-career professional with substantial experience in a high-level environment (relevant corporations with exposure to C-Suite executives), government, or prestigious strategy consulting firms.
- Proven expertise in chemicals and fuels, particularly in hydrogen, its derivatives, and other low-emission solutions, along with a solid understanding of decarbonization technologies.
- Experience in developing and utilizing analytical tools related to industrial and heavy transport decarbonization, as well as cross-cutting energy solutions (bio-energy, hydrogen, CCUS, renewables).
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong desire to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Exceptional communication skills: verbal, written, and presentation. Ability to craft compelling narratives from quantitative and qualitative data and produce concise, well-structured documents that convey clear yet nuanced messages.
- Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and relationship management capabilities.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain trusting relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including senior executives, across different organizations and regions.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills, along with excellent digital proficiency.
- Adaptability and comfort in an entrepreneurial/start-up environment.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in economics, a climate-related field, or a STEM discipline.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in stakeholder engagement: facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders from the private sector, policy, and finance to address energy and industrial decarbonization challenges.
- Background in working with membership organizations, as well as in the corporate, NGO, and policy sectors.
