About the Role


We are seeking a highly skilled Fashion Buyer to cover maternity leave in our Lingerie department. As a key member of our buying team, you will be responsible for implementing the sourcing and buying strategy for our Lingerie product line, ensuring the delivery of agreed target KPIs.


Key Responsibilities



  • Manage the buying team to ensure targets are identified and met
  • Ensure the supply base has the capability to meet requirements
  • Negotiate with suppliers for best price while maintaining product integrity and standards in production
  • Understand and contribute towards brand and product handwriting
  • Ensure agreed levels of good, better, and best product are bought
  • Review competitor activity and ensure customer/competitor benchmarking is completed
  • Understand profit and intake margin strategy, focusing on achieved margin targets
  • Continually drive newness and initiative, maximising sales and minimising risk
  • Challenge and manage underperformance where necessary
  • Work with garment tech to take joint responsibility for fit and quality
  • Regularly visit stores and work closely with retail colleagues
  • Work with supply base/wider buying team to source and develop new product opportunities
  • Secure dates for product sign-off at appropriate points in the season
  • Oversee the critical path management for the department
  • Assist in driving marketing and trading activity
  • Ensure Competency Reviews are completed, and Personal Development plans are developed and kept live with the buying team
  • Work with the HR team to ensure the teams are developed to the required skill levels
  • Cascade strategic objectives to the wider teams
  • Work alongside the buying teams to ensure agreed looks and colour palettes are developed and delivered with consistency
  • Develop and share best practice across the buying floor
  • Ensure that communication of issues and developments to the Director is timely, consistent, and in the appropriate format
  • Undertake project work when required
  • Deliver a profitable range in a timely manner
  • Develop a range which works visually alongside other products to agreed guidelines
  • Build and motivate a professional and respected team
  • Work within budget to increase sales while reducing markdown

About You



  • A passion for fashion, particularly in the non-standard sizing market
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach to completing given tasks
  • A willingness to learn and the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A commercial outlook and a keen business sense
  • A proven record of good attendance and flexibility
  • The ability to adapt to frequent change in a high-pressure environment
  • Commitment to behaving with integrity and professionalism at all times
  • A proven history of taking personal responsibility and accountability for actions, constantly striving to improve and exceed expectations and ensuring safety and quality are never compromised
  • A relevant qualification at degree or equivalent level
  • Experience of working within a buying team environment, within a multiple brand retailer, preferable
  • Strong commercial awareness and a minimum of 3 years at Buyer Level
  • Tangible knowledge of putting together a profitable range
  • Effective communicator, presenter, and team player
  • Ability to adopt a flexible approach when required and to think swiftly
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritise projects
  • Experience of Lingerie product category
