Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic team in Cellular Pathology. As a core member of the team, you will play a crucial role in providing an efficient and effective Histology and Diagnostic (Non Gynae) Cytology service to our clients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine and specialized laboratory techniques in the processing of Diagnostic Cytology (Non Gynae).
  • Support laboratory staff with queries and troubleshoot problems related to sample acceptance and processing.
  • Be prepared to cover various steps in Non Gynae sample processing, staining, pre-screening, and sending cases to pathologists.
  • Work within health and safety guidelines.
  • Provide patients with high-quality diagnosis processes within agreed quality standards and turnaround times under senior staff supervision.
  • Participate in the Laboratory Non Gynae pre-screen team and assist in overseeing the service in the absence of the Cytology Advanced Practitioner.

Key Requirements

  • IBMS Accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology.
  • Knowledge and experience of Histology/Diagnostic (Non Gynae) Cytology processing, techniques, pre-screening, and practices at post-honours degree level.
  • Understanding and importance of Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures in the department (staining IQC).
  • Ability to work across 3 different sites in a 24-7 work environment if required.
  • Good knowledge and experience of industry-standard laboratory information management systems and computer applications.
