Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Systems Engineer Senior to join our team in the Office of Drinking Water. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of drinking water to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of waterworks to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Interpret federal and state regulations applicable to waterworks owners and operators.
  • Provide guidance and support to waterworks owners and operators to achieve compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Evaluate engineering documents associated with the design and construction of new or expanded waterworks to ensure compliance with public health standards.
  • Train operators in the operation and maintenance of waterworks.
  • Provide information about drinking water quality to the public.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge and experience in biology, microbiology, chemistry, engineering principles and practices, and math.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound engineering decisions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, including written and verbal communication, as well as the ability to present before groups and in public meetings and produce technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret law, regulations, policies, and technical documents.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Considerable engineering working knowledge pertaining to drinking water.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
