Mental Health Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team at Teaching Personnel. The successful candidate will have experience in working with children and/or adults who display challenging behaviour and a passion for supporting students' mental health.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mental health issues affecting students, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
The Behaviour Support Assistant will be responsible for providing one-on-one or small group support sessions for students, focusing on strategies for emotional regulation, self-care, and social skills development. They will also assist in the development and implementation of education plans for students with mental health concerns and monitor students' progress, communicating effectively with teachers regarding this.
Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to students with mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, and trauma.
- Assist in the development and implementation of education plans for students with mental health concerns.
- Monitor students' progress and communicate effectively with teachers regarding this.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy and safeguarding laws and regulations.
- Support teachers in managing the behaviour and specialist needs of students.
Qualifications:
- Team Teach trained, or willing to partake in a 2-day Team Teach training course.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or mental health setting.
- Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting students, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in mental health support for students.
- Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of child safeguarding and ability to respond to such concerns effectively and efficiently.
This role will involve working with students of Primary and/or Secondary ages, and all applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ's on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position, with the option to make this role permanent at a later date.
