Birmingham, United Kingdom Shelter Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Volunteering Lead to join our thriving volunteering team at Shelter. As a key member of our Equity, Inclusion & Culture Directorate, you will be responsible for leading the development of our volunteering offer, practice, and culture within our communities teams.

Key responsibilities will include developing new ways for people to give their time, delivering our goals of tackling the root causes of homelessness, and creating change for individuals experiencing housing issues. You will also need to build influential relationships with leadership teams and other key stakeholders to design and plan involvement of volunteers and embed approaches to volunteering.

We are committed to combatting racism and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation. Our team is passionate about the positive impacts of volunteering for both individuals and organisations, and we engage more than 2,000 volunteers in our shops, Hubs, and local communities.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need experience of applying best practice principles to volunteer engagement, including role planning, recruitment, induction, training, and development, communication, and feedback, and risk management. You will also need a collaborative approach, good listening and questioning skills, and a flair for leading and developing people and identifying practical solutions to problems.

You will be well-organised, great at influencing, negotiating, and forging productive relationships with a range of stakeholders, and confident and creative when using a range of communication methods. You will also be comfortable planning and delivering engaging presentations and designing and developing learning content.

What We Offer

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family-friendly policies, pension, and interest-free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme, and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support, and legal services. We campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We are here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
