As a Facilities Cleaning Assistant, you will work flexibly to provide a responsive and customer-focused cleaning service, ensuring that facilities are maintained to the highest standards. You will be responsible for delivering a range of cleaning tasks, including emptying waste and recycling receptacles, collecting and delivering laundry, and supporting emergency cleaning and spillage response.
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustomer ServiceYou will provide friendly and proactive cleaning support to our customers, responding to their enquiries and resolving problems in a positive and helpful manner. You will promote a positive image of the University at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and wearing protective clothing as issued.
You will also be responsible for welcoming and responding to enquiries from staff, students, and visitors, and for promoting a positive image of the University at all times.
OperationalYou will provide planned and reactive cleaning services to University-defined service level standards, ensuring a common standard is maintained within the zone. This will include cleaning all accessible surfaces, including furniture, fixtures, and fittings, as well as various floor types, carpets, sanitary ware, and wall tiles.
You will also be responsible for emptying waste and recycling receptacles, transferring waste to designated disposal points, and collecting and delivering clean and dirty laundry between the place of work and the in-house laundry.
Health & SafetyYou will ensure your own personal safety and the safety of others by following safe working practices for the use and storage of equipment and machinery, using hazard warning signs and personal protective equipment during all cleaning activities.
You will also be responsible for reporting any breaches of security and emergencies within the zone to the Duty Manager or Security gatehouse, and for assisting with emergency procedures as directed.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge / QualificationsYou will have a minimum Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 3 in English and Mathematics (National 3) or equivalent. You will also have some knowledge of cleaning or facilities duties and an understanding of the quality outputs and standards required in a cleaning or facilities role within a work environment.
You will be able to achieve a University of Glasgow in-house training certificate following induction training, and you will have some understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures associated with the post, including fire safety and manual handling.
SkillsYou will have the ability to use cleaning materials and operate mechanical and electrical machinery safely and effectively, following necessary training. You will also have numeracy skills and the ability to read written instructions, communicate and exchange information verbally in English to enable the safe use of cleaning products, following necessary CoSHH training.
You will be self-motivated with the ability to plan and organise your own duties/workload effectively and efficiently to meet service requirements. You will also have some customer care skills and a willingness to develop and enhance your own skills and knowledge by participating in training to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
DesirableYou will have an active interest in the range of services provided across the wider University, including developing your own skills to support the provision of an integrated service.
ExperienceYou will have some previous cleaning or facilities experience or experience of working in a similar environment, although training will be provided to work in a professional/business setting. You will also have experience of liaising and communicating with customers/service users as appropriate.
Terms and ConditionsThe salary for this position will be Grade 2, £21,900 per annum, pro rata, plus 6% shift allowance. The position is part-time (17.5 hours per week), and open-ended. Shifts are 06.00 – 15.45, Saturday and Sunday.
