Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist in Trauma and Orthopaedics

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist to join their Trauma and Orthopaedics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to the team, managing a clinical caseload, and contributing to the overall Occupational Therapy strategy for the Trust.
The ideal candidate will have experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Band 7 and above, with a strong background in leading and managing a team. They will also have experience in developing staff and leading with Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
The Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist will be responsible for:
- Organising and managing the specialist provision of acute services and rehabilitation to patients admitted within Trauma and Orthopaedics.
- Working at an advanced clinical level within Trauma and Orthopaedics, particularly in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex patients.
- Using analytical and judgement skills to diagnose occupational difficulties and formulate appropriate solutions.
- Managing a clinical caseload to a high standard, including assessment, interventions, and discharge planning.
- Working within local policies and procedures, national standards, and guidelines, and adhering to the Royal College of Occupational Therapy professional standards and ethics.
The Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist will also be responsible for:
- Supervising, training, and providing day-to-day management to occupational therapists and assistants working within Trauma and Orthopaedics services.
- Providing advice and support to occupational therapy colleagues on clinical practice issues and service development initiatives.
- Proposing and actioning changes, developing, organising, and managing Trauma and Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy services.
- Liaising with the service manager, therapy lead, and Trauma and Orthopaedic service consultants to agree protocols and care pathways for the assessment and management of patients.
The Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist will be a key member of the Trauma and Orthopaedics team, working closely with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care to patients. They will be responsible for promoting awareness of the role of Occupational Therapy within the team, negotiating priorities, and ensuring a quality service for patients.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, with excellent leadership and management skills. They will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritising tasks and managing multiple responsibilities. They will also be able to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, promoting a culture of teamwork and respect.
