About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Development Specialist to join our team at James Walker. As a key member of our Materials Engineering Group, you will play a critical role in driving innovation and advancing our expertise in materials technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Manage project work, collaborating with departmental colleagues and other teams within technology to deliver high-quality results.
  • Material Expertise: Stay up-to-date with emerging materials and technologies, leveraging this knowledge to drive development and improvement within the business.
  • Professional Development: Maintain your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as well as supporting the CPD needs of colleagues.
  • Customer and Supplier Liaison: Engage with customers and suppliers as required, promoting a positive image of James Walker and fostering strong relationships.
  • New Material Development: Proactively develop new materials that meet customer needs and advance our business objectives.
  • Travel and Presentations: Travel within the UK and overseas as necessary to represent James Walker at conferences and present technical papers.
  • Training and Support: Deliver training sessions for JW colleagues and customers, providing technical guidance and support as needed.
  • Patent Applications: Prepare and review patent applications as relevant, ensuring we maximize our intellectual property potential.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and develop materials to meet relevant customer, national, and international standards.
About You
  • Essential Experience: A hands-on approach to problem-solving, previous experience as a Technologist in a similar role, strong project leadership and technical presentation skills.
  • Qualifications: A degree in a Science-based subject, with other qualifications or relevant experience considered on a case-by-case basis.
