The Role


We are seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Grade Psychiatrist to join our team at HMP Exeter, a category B men's reception prison with a small resettlement function.


As a Senior Mental Health Clinician for Prison Services, you will play a key role in providing expert advice and guidance on complex mental health cases, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.


Your Key Responsibilities


Key responsibilities include:



  • Liaising with external services to arrange comprehensive assessment plans, aftercare planning, and transfers to hospital as required
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on individuals with complex mental health needs and risk presentations
  • Maintaining high-quality records for patients within the service
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues and senior consultants

About the Role


This part-time, 8 PA role provides cover for HMP Exeter mental health services and offers opportunities for senior leadership on site. The successful candidate will be Section 12 registered and appointed to support the full Oxleas service through their expertise.

Location and Workload


HMP Exeter receives approximately 190 receptions per month, with 121 referrals to the mental health team each month. As a Senior Mental Health Clinician for Prison Services, you will have flexibility in allocation of individual responsibilities but will work within an integrated model of care, collaborating with mental health practitioners, psychologists, and other healthcare colleagues to provide comprehensive care to patients.


Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
