Job Description

Our Gloucester division has been at the forefront of cutting-edge landing gear technology for over 90 years. As a Materials Engineer, you will be part of our legacy, working in a collaborative environment with a focus on forensic investigation and laboratory expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead forensic investigation of landing gear parts
  • Support laboratory tasks related to raw material suppliers, forgers, and foundries
  • Collaborate with special process departments, including surface treatments and non-destructive testing
  • Conduct mechanical tests to support supplier developments, R&T, and production issues
  • Contribute to department and company improvements
  • Review procedures and participate in the development of materials and process specifications
  • Support the team with HSE initiatives
  • Deliver internal materials and processes training

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of metallurgy, particularly with respect to steels, titanium, and aluminum alloys
  • Broad understanding of fabrication processes used to manufacture landing gear components
  • Knowledge of surface treatments and protection systems used on landing gear structures
  • Hands-on experience with metallographic preparation, microscopy, and materials testing
  • Understanding of degradation and failure mechanisms applicable to engineering materials
  • Some prior knowledge of composite materials used in aerospace applications is advantageous
  • Ability to understand and interpret specifications relating to materials and processes
  • Must be able to write accurate and detailed technical reports and other types of technical documentation
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and convey technical information to both internal customers and the supply base
